Usage & Rate Limits

Baulit uses a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model for AI features. You connect your own Anthropic API key and pay Anthropic directly based on your usage. Baulit does not impose monthly call quotas or charge extra for AI — your subscription unlocks the features, and your Anthropic account handles the billing.

AI features require a Pro or Enterprise subscription plus a connected Anthropic API key.

No Baulit-imposed call limits. Since you pay Anthropic directly, there is no monthly cap from Baulit's side. Your usage is governed by the spending limits you set in your Anthropic console.

How AI Billing Works

Each AI feature sends a request to Anthropic's Claude API using your key. Anthropic charges based on the number of tokens (words and data) processed in each request. Typical costs per AI call range from a few cents to around $0.10 depending on the feature and the amount of project data involved.

Ask Baulit: Each question you submit generates one API call.
Template Generator: Generating a task list from a description or document is one call.
Daily Log Drafting: Drafting one daily log is one call.
Stakeholder Email: Generating one email draft is one call.
CO Narrative: Generating a change order narrative is one call.
Budget Commentary: Generating budget analysis text is one call.
Invoice Extraction: Processing one invoice is one call.

If a call fails due to a network error or Anthropic outage, you are not charged by Anthropic for incomplete requests.

Tip: Set a monthly spending cap in your Anthropic console to stay within your budget. Most builders using all seven AI features regularly spend between $5 and $20 per month on API usage.

Hourly Rate Protection

Baulit applies a per-user hourly rate limit as a safety net against accidental loops or rapid-fire requests. This protects your Anthropic bill from unexpected spikes.

Under normal usage you will never hit this limit. If you do, Baulit displays a message asking you to wait a few minutes before trying again. The limit resets automatically every hour.

What Happens at the Limit

If you hit the hourly rate limit, AI buttons remain visible but show a temporary message. No data is lost, and no partial results are applied to your project. You can still view all previously generated AI content (drafts, templates, query results). The limit clears within the hour and you can resume using AI features.

Managing Your Anthropic Costs

Since Baulit does not mark up or intermediate your Anthropic usage, you have full control over your AI spending:

Set a spending cap in the Anthropic console to limit your monthly bill.
Monitor usage in your Anthropic dashboard to see exactly what each feature costs.
Remove your key at any time in Baulit Settings to immediately stop all AI charges.

Important: If you set a spending cap in your Anthropic console and hit that cap mid-month, AI features in Baulit will stop working until the cap resets. Baulit will show an error message explaining that the API key returned an error. You can raise your cap in the Anthropic console to restore access immediately.
