Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most from builders, project managers, and their teams.
Account & Setup
What browsers does Baulit support?
Baulit works on the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience. Baulit is a single-page web application and does not require any plugins or extensions.
Does Baulit work on mobile devices?
Yes. Baulit is a responsive web app that works in your mobile browser. You can create logs, update task statuses, and review project data from your phone or tablet. There is no separate native app to download — just open your browser and go to app.baulit.com.
How do I sign up?
Go to app.baulit.com and click Sign Up. Enter your email address and choose a password. After signing up, check your inbox for a confirmation email and click the link to verify your address. See Signing Up & Logging In for a full walkthrough.
Can I change my email address after signing up?
Yes. Go to Settings → Account and update the email field. Baulit sends a confirmation link to both your old and new email addresses. You must confirm from both inboxes before the change takes effect.
How do I reset my password?
On the login screen, click Forgot password? and enter your email address. Baulit sends a reset link to your inbox. Click the link, set a new password, and log in.
Billing & Subscriptions
How much does Baulit cost?
Baulit offers three tiers: Free ($0), Pro ($79/mo), and Enterprise ($149/mo). Annual billing saves approximately 20%. See Subscription Tiers for a full comparison of features and limits.
What is included in the Free plan?
The Free plan includes 2 projects, 1 manager seat, 500 MB of file storage, task management, Gantt chart with CPM, budget tracking, change orders, daily logs, contacts, templates, and basic reports. AI features are not available on Free.
How do paid seats work?
Admin and Manager roles are paid seats that count against your tier limit (Free: 1, Pro: 3, Enterprise: 10). Contractor and Stakeholder roles are always free and unlimited on every tier. You only pay for the people who need full project management access. See Roles & Permissions for details on what each role can do.
Can I add extra manager seats beyond my tier limit?
Yes. On Pro and Enterprise plans, additional manager seats cost $19 per month each. You can add seats through the Stripe Customer Portal. The cost is prorated for your current billing period.
How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Go to Settings → Billing → Manage Billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can change your plan, update payment methods, or switch between monthly and annual billing. See Billing & Upgrades for details.
What happens to my data if I downgrade?
Your data is fully preserved. Features above your new tier become locked but nothing is deleted. If you have more projects than your new tier allows, existing projects remain accessible in read-only mode. You can upgrade again at any time to restore full access.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → Billing → Manage Billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal and select Cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of your current billing period, then reverts to Free.
Projects & Tasks
How many projects can I create?
Free: 2 projects. Pro: 25 projects. Enterprise: unlimited. These limits include both active and archived projects.
Is there a limit on the number of tasks per project?
No. You can create as many tasks as your project needs. There is no per-project or per-account task limit on any tier.
What project types does Baulit support?
Baulit supports two project types: Land Purchase (for lot acquisition and site development) and Construction (for spec builds and custom builds). Each type comes with different default phases and task templates.
How does the Gantt chart calculate dates?
The Gantt chart uses the Critical Path Method (CPM) to calculate task dates based on durations and dependencies. All dependencies are Finish-to-Start (FS), and durations are measured in working days (Monday through Friday, skipping weekends). See Gantt Chart & CPM for a detailed explanation.
What are working days?
Working days are Monday through Friday. When you set a task duration of 5 days, Baulit calculates 5 weekdays, skipping Saturday and Sunday. This matches how most trades, suppliers, and inspectors operate in residential construction.
Can I share templates with other Baulit users?
Templates are currently private to your account. There is no built-in template sharing or marketplace. You can export your project data as a backup and share the JSON file, but there is no one-click template transfer between accounts.
Does Baulit integrate with external calendars (Google Calendar, Outlook)?
Baulit does not currently offer built-in calendar integration with external services. The Calendar View within Baulit shows your task dates and daily log indicators, but it does not sync with Google Calendar, Outlook, or iCal.
How many team members can I invite to a project?
There is no limit on the number of team members per project. Your tier limits apply to paid seats (Admin and Manager roles), but Contractor and Stakeholder roles are unlimited on every plan.
Budget & Change Orders
What cost categories are available?
Baulit includes seven cost categories: Labor, Materials, Equipment, Subcontractor, Permits, Overhead, and Other. These categories are used for cost line items on tasks and appear in budget reports. The categories are fixed and cannot be customized.
How do change orders affect the budget?
When a change order is approved, its cost delta (new amount minus original amount) automatically creates a cost line item on the linked task. Your project budget totals and EAC update immediately. No manual adjustment is needed. See Change Orders for the full workflow.
Can I export budget data to QuickBooks or Excel?
Yes. The Budget Detail report supports CSV export on Pro and Enterprise plans. Click "Export CSV" to download a file you can import into QuickBooks, Excel, or any accounting software that accepts CSV format.
Can contractors see budget information?
No. Contractors only see the tasks assigned to them. They cannot access the Budget tab, change orders, daily logs, reports, or other team members' tasks. Sensitive financial data is visible only to Admins and Managers.
AI Features
What AI features does Baulit include?
Baulit includes seven AI tools: Ask Baulit (natural language project queries), Template Generator (create task lists from descriptions), Daily Log Drafting (auto-draft logs from task data), Stakeholder Email (compose progress updates), CO Narrative (write change order justifications), Budget Commentary (generate budget analysis), and Invoice Extraction (pull line items from uploaded invoices). See the AI Features section for guides on each tool.
How do I set up AI features?
Baulit uses a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. Create an API key at console.anthropic.com, then paste it into Settings → Account → AI Integration. Click Save & Test to validate. See BYOK Setup for step-by-step instructions.
How much does it cost to use AI features?
Baulit itself does not charge extra for AI features beyond your subscription. However, each AI call uses your Anthropic API key, and Anthropic charges based on token usage. Typical costs per call range from a few cents to around $0.10 depending on the feature and the amount of project data processed.
Are there limits on AI usage?
Baulit does not impose monthly call quotas. Since you bring your own Anthropic API key, your usage is governed by your Anthropic account's limits and billing. Baulit does apply a per-user hourly rate limit as abuse protection, but under normal usage you will never hit it. AI features require a Pro or Enterprise subscription and a connected API key.
Is my API key secure?
Yes. Your API key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored in the database. It is only decrypted server-side when processing an AI request. Baulit never exposes your key in the browser or sends it to any third party other than Anthropic's API.
Does Baulit use my project data for AI training?
No. When you use an AI feature, your project data is sent to Anthropic's API only for that specific request. Anthropic does not use API inputs for model training. Your data is not retained after the response is generated.
Data & Privacy
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption in transit). Your database is hosted on Supabase cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest. AI API keys receive additional AES-256-GCM encryption before storage.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. Go to Settings → Data → Export Backup to download a complete JSON file of all your data, including projects, tasks, budgets, change orders, daily logs, contacts, templates, and settings. See Data Backup for details.
Where is my data stored?
Baulit uses Supabase cloud infrastructure for data storage. This includes a PostgreSQL database for structured data and Supabase Storage for file uploads. All data is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies that ensure you can only access your own projects.
Who can see my projects?
Only team members you explicitly invite to a project can see it. Baulit uses Row Level Security at the database level, so every query is filtered by user identity. There is no global admin or support account that can view your project data without your permission.
Can I delete my account and all my data?
Yes. Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, all projects, tasks, files, and associated data. This action cannot be undone. We recommend exporting a backup before deleting your account.
Does Baulit work offline?
No. Baulit requires an internet connection to function. All data is stored in the cloud and synced in real time. If you lose connectivity, unsaved changes may be lost. We recommend saving your work frequently, especially when working from job sites with unreliable connections.
Troubleshooting
The page looks broken or outdated after an update
This is usually caused by your browser caching an older version of the app. Perform a hard refresh: press Cmd+Shift+R on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux. This forces your browser to download the latest version of all files.
I cannot log in
Check that you are using the correct email address and password. If you have forgotten your password, click Forgot password? on the login screen. Make sure cookies are enabled in your browser, as Baulit uses cookies for session management. If the problem persists, try a different browser or clear your browser cache.
File uploads are failing
Check that your file is under the 25 MB size limit. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, HEIC, PDF, Word documents (.doc, .docx), and Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx). If the upload still fails, check your internet connection. If you are on the Free tier, verify that you have not exceeded the 500 MB storage limit.
Weather data is not showing in daily logs
Weather data requires a project address for geocoding. Make sure your project has a complete address entered in the project details. The weather service (Open-Meteo) is free and does not require an API key, but it may be temporarily unavailable. Wait a few minutes and try again.
My Gantt chart shows unexpected dates
Gantt dates are calculated from task durations and dependencies using CPM. If dates look wrong, check that your task durations are set correctly (in working days, not calendar days) and that predecessor relationships are accurate. Circular dependencies will prevent calculation entirely — Baulit shows a warning if a cycle is detected. See Gantt Chart & CPM for troubleshooting tips.
