Budget Reports

Baulit provides two specialized budget reports, each designed for a different question. The Budget Detail report answers "Where is my money going on this project?" The Budget Exposure & Risk report answers "Which projects are at risk of going over budget?" Together, they give you full financial visibility from task-level line items to portfolio-level risk analysis.

Both reports are accessible from the Reports Hub.

Budget Detail (Cost-to-Complete)

The Budget Detail report is a per-project, task-level cost breakdown. It shows you exactly where money has been spent and what remains on every budgeted task. This is the report you pull when preparing a draw request, reconciling invoices, or reviewing cost performance with your project manager.

What it shows

For the selected project, the report lists every task that has cost data, organized by phase:

Column Description
Task Name The task, grouped under its phase
Budgeted Cost Original budget amount for this task
Actual Cost Total of all cost line items recorded against this task
Remaining Budgeted minus actual — how much is left to spend
Projected Final Cost Estimated at completion (EAC) based on current spending rate
Variance Difference between budgeted and projected final — positive means under budget, negative means over

Over-budget warnings

Tasks where actual cost exceeds the budget are highlighted with a warning indicator. The variance column turns red and shows the overage amount. These visual flags make it easy to scan the report and spot problems without reading every number.

Uncosted task exposure

At the bottom of the report, a summary section lists tasks that have no cost data at all. These represent budget exposure — work that has been planned but not yet priced. If you have 15 tasks with no cost line items, that is unknown financial risk. The report quantifies this gap so you can address it.

CSV export

Click Export CSV to download the full report as a spreadsheet. The export includes every column shown on screen plus individual cost line items for each task. This is useful for importing into accounting software, sharing with your bookkeeper, or performing your own analysis in a spreadsheet.

AI Budget Commentary

If you have an AI API key configured, you can generate an AI-written budget commentary that summarizes the financial status of the project in plain language. The commentary highlights over-budget areas, identifies trends, and flags risks. See CO Narrative & Budget Commentary for details.

The AI drafts, the builder decides. AI-generated budget commentary is a starting point for your analysis. Always verify the numbers and conclusions against the actual report data before sharing with stakeholders.

Budget Exposure & Risk

The Budget Risk report is a cross-project dashboard designed for portfolio-level financial oversight. Instead of drilling into one project's costs, it shows you which projects across your entire portfolio have budget concerns that need attention.

Interactive filters

Filter pills at the top let you narrow the view:

Sort options

Five sort options let you prioritize the view:

Collapsible project cards

Each project appears as a card showing its budget summary. Click to expand and see the over-budget tasks within that project, grouped by phase. This drill-down structure lets you start at the portfolio level and quickly zero in on the specific tasks driving budget overruns.

Summary tiles

Clickable summary tiles at the top of the report show aggregate metrics:

Click any tile to filter the report to just the projects that contribute to that metric.

Print support

The Budget Risk report is print-compatible. The layout adapts for paper with clean page breaks between project cards. Use Cmd + P or click the Print button to generate a physical copy or PDF.
